About to Step Into the World of Hashtags. Help!
September 15, 2014 1:48 PM
I've got some blogs running and a successful business in the offing. About to jump on the train.
How do hashtags work and how would I go about incorporating them into my projects?
This depends a lot on the platform you're talking about. At their core, hashtags are just like standard tags but with a hashmark signifier in front, initially meant to tell the program that you were doing a tag. Depending on what platform you are on, you probably just want to spend a lot of time absorbing other people's content and learning how they're using them, learning the conventions and the exceptions, learning the popular hashtags, etc.
Can you give a little more detail about what you're doing and what your goals are? As stated though, this is sort of impossibly broad, other than what I said above.

I want to use them to build followers and drive traffic to my website, fb page, twitter feed and instagram. We did a trial run early this year. Followers were coming on board and traffic was building nicely. I had others in charge of social media then . Now I need to learn how to do it on my own.

I mean, your blogging software should allow you to add tags. So you add them like you added one to this post; people click them and can see all of your content with the same tag. It allows a more finite grouping than categories.
