How do I clean a pleather (faux!) jacket?

I have a cheap pleather jacket that I wear all the time - the inner lining is stained and I'm worried about washing it. The jacket says "dry clean only" but when I took it to the dry cleaners they said they'd charge $60+ to clean it because it was "leather" (it's not). How should I clean it?

The outside of the jacket is fine, it's just the inside lining that is smelly and needs to be cleaned. Will I mess my jacket up by spot-scrubbing the inner lining? What will happen if I soak the whole thing in cold water?

This will be risky no matter what. If you're willing to take the risk, you can clean the inside and outside with baby wipes.

Best answer: This video says that baby wipes are usually okay for the exterior, and hand-washing the lining is okay.

Have you seen this?

It really kind depends what your faux leather is made out of.

If possible, spray the baby wipes with vodka. Vodka is great at disinfecting and deodorizing fabrics you can't or won't dry clean.

I wouldn't spray vodka directly unless it was OK for the type of material the jacket is made from.

I've washed mine on the gentle cycle, cold wash and rinse. Air dry. There was no ripping/staining/oddness. Took a while to dry though. Jacket material is fairly sturdy but delicate liner. If possible, use a front-loading washing machine.

Best answer: I got a faux leather jacket on the cheap a few weeks ago and it PONGED of BO. I managed to get the smell completely out by using Nature's Miracle - a spray that breaks down the enzimes in cat urine before whatever has been peed on goes to be washed. I had to do it twice - spray, leave 25 hours and gently hand wash the area, but it is now gone. Good luck!
