Outdoorsy things to do within an hour or so of Pine Grove, Calif. when camping with a 7-year-old?

My 7-year-old son and I are camping near Pine Grove on Labor Day weekend. I'd take him somewhere within an hour's drive or so for some hiking, swimming, kayayking or other outdoor fun. Any suggestions? Thanks!

It's not an outdoor activity, but I assume you're going to Black Chasm Cavern, which is awesome and right up the road. Moaning Cavern is very different and well worth a visit. It's an hour away. They also have zip lines.

California Big Trees State Park is a little less than an hour and half a way. It's incredible. A must-do. (It's only 20 minutes or so from Moaning Cavern).

There are several lakes within an hour, but I'm not sure which, if any rent kayaks. Maybe New Melones Lake? Water level will be low, but there should be some there.

There is river rafting available with outfitters in Coloma, CA, which is an hour away. Not sure about water levels with the drought. You might call ahead.
