Installing Minecraft mods on a Mac
July 31, 2014 8:03 PM

I spent something like two or three hours the other night trying to install the pixelmon mod for Minecraft on my Mac running 10.9.4. The fact that I can write that sentence is itself an achievement, and I'm not sure how to even ask for the help I need.

I've read the forums and watched the videos, but I can't get pixelmon to work. My son originally installed some mods and texture packs but says they "don't work" now. From what I've read, this might be because he updated Minecraft at some point, but I'm not sure. We now have 1.7.2. Should I update to 1.7.10?

It might also be because of a conflicting profile? We have our main account profile, Forge, and OptiFine (I don't know what that last is). Our installed Forge is 10.12.0.1024.

I'm usually the mostly competent tech person in our family, but I've kept pretty far away from Minecraft. I have a folder now with a bazillion mods and jars and so on, but when I launch Minecraft, it says I have three mods, which is what I started with, and the list doesn't include pixelmon.

So, can you give me any tips? As you can tell, I don't even know what questions to ask.
