This rain barrel has a hole in the bottom of it!

So I bought a plastic 50-gallon garbage can on wheels with a locking lid, a spigot, some metal and some rubber washers, and a lot of caulk. I cut a hole near the bottom of the trash can and shoved the spigot through it. There were washers involved, inside and out, and a lot (I mean a LOT) of caulk. It still leaks. What do I need to do/make/buy preferably in that order to get this can catching and keeping?

It's at my friend's house otherwise I'd show you a picture right now.

Response by poster: Well, I definitely just skipped a step in those instructions. No wonder!
