Dead PSP pixels
October 19, 2005 11:32 AM
I just bought a new PSP (Sony Playstation Portable). It has 5 dead pixels at the bottom. Through reading on the internet I discovered that having a few pixels like this is 'acceptable'. Other PSP owners, is this normal or should I trade it for another one with better display quality?
Mine has a few dead pixels scattered around the screen, and I only notice when it's a black loading screen. Not worth the hassle of a return, in my opinion.

Mine was luckily free of dead pixels. Here's some info on getting a new PSP and here's a link to an application that might be able to fix some of those pixels - no guarantee and the time needed to run varies, but several people have reported that the application fixed their stuck pixels.

I have not used it but you could try the PSP stuck pixel fixer.

If you have 5, return it. You should be able to take it back to the place you bought it, no problem. Consider asking if it's okay if you check the new one out for pixels before buying it too, if the store is not that busy.

You're lucky. I think "5 or more" is the threshold for allowing an exchange. By the way, if you're going to look at stuck pixel fixers, you should be aware that theres one out there that'll trash your lcd (apologies, don't have a link or the name of that particular pixel fixer app off the top of my head).

i completely agree with cmonkey - mine has two stuck pixels but I only notice them while the screen is completely black. I *never* notice them in-game.

Thanks for your replies all. After looking at it for an evening I decided that 6 pixels is a bit much. I asked the guy at the store when I bought it if I could return it if it had too many dead pixels and he said yes so that should not be a problem.
