what can be done against the rise of populisms in Europe ?

It is a dark time for common sense in Europe. Although the EU is there to prevent nobody invades nobody far-left and far-right political movements are in full swing. Things definitely look like the 1930's are making a come-back. Hate-speech thinker ? Check. Gesture ? Check. Familiar-looking red/white/black flag ? Check.

I could go on with examples but that's not my point.

My point is : this is not the 1930's : we have the internet. Sure it can spread trolls, astroturf campaigns and conspiracy theories like wildfire but... can there be something grass-root, citizen-based, maybe fueled by social networks to prevent the "There has been injustice in my and I'm pissed" people from becoming "There has been injustice in my life and I blame it all on Jews/the euro/Banks/EU/gay marriage/whatever" ?

Could I wear something on my coat that makes people think twice before listening to hate-spreading public figures ? Could I tweet/blog/YouTube/FaceBook something that makes pissed-off people think twice before they send narrow-thinking men and women to their parliament.

I know it's a tall order so thanks a bunch in advance dear hive-mind
