40th birthday experience ideas needed!

I need ideas for an outdoorsy/active October 40th birthday weekend getaway from Boston.

My boyfriend is turning 40 in mid October and I'd like to take him somewhere for a Friday after work, Saturday night stay and come home on Sunday. We live in Boston and 2-3 hours travel time is the maximum (via train, car, ferry or plane - I'm willing to get us plane tickets but don't want a long travel time, that's all!) I'd like to do something fun on Saturday that is outdoorsy (preferably not camping because we are already super active avid campers). My budget for the weekend is $800. Other than that, I'm open and need help thinking of good getaway ideas! Please, no spas. It's just not us. If we could bring our dog it would be a bonus, but most definitely not mandatory.

An example of an idea I had was to take the ferry from Boston to Provincetown, stay 2 nights in p-town, and go mountain biking in the dunes on Saturday, but I feel like I can do better than that. I would like to avoid NH because it will be crazy with leaf peeping season.

Help me hive mind!

It's up near NH, so maybe not what you're looking for, but skydiving in Pepperell is totally awesome.

So look, depending on your view of the outdoors,
rent motorcycles
ride out route 2 to the Berkshires

Maybe see a concert Friday night and then go to the farmers market Saturday morning

Then take Saturday afternoon and try the zipline in Deerfield?

A friend of mine just did the zipline. They said they took their time and it was about 3 hours of entertainment.

Hot air balloon ride. (No ideas about where to do this, though)

Berkshires? You could hike and/or do a yoga retreat at Kripalu.

We love the Shelburne Falls area. Gould's Sugar House is a great place for pancakes and sausage and the glacial potholes are really cool. We've never used them, but I know Zoar Outdoor has kayaking, biking, rock climbing and zip lining. And Shelburne Falls strikes me as a particularly doggy town.

I love Portland, ME. Good food, lots of good hikes, pet-friendly Airbnb places.
