Things to do in Destin, FL, with a broken shoulder?
July 22, 2013 7:19 PM

My mother and I are going to Destin, FL, for a mother/daughter weekend this upcoming weekend. She is recovering from a broken shoulder. What are some things we can do together while we are there which will not bump her around too much (e.g. a bumpy boat ride) or demand the use of her dominant arm?

Head over to beautiful Seaside, about a half hour from Destin, eat at the rooftop bar of Bud and Alley's , shop at Sundog Books and amble around.

Just relax. Hang out at the pool, play some cards, talk. Sometimes being away from home, in a pretty spot with water is a nice way to re-connect with loved ones.

A Mani-Pedi might be a nice thing to do. Watch TV together, talk.

Seriously, play it by ear. Your mom may be in pain and not up for much, but hanging with her daughter will be a highlight of her year (yours too if you play it right.)

We went by Seaside. Mom loved it, and I enjoyed myself, too. There was a very central, walkable shopping / dining area with good people watching. We were able to bring the dogs, which kept us busy, too. Good dining on a restaurant porch outside. Busy but still a peaceful environment. Gave mom and daughter some time to bond but also provided some fun distractions for us.
