Online gay communities

Moving to a gay-free zone (OK maybe I'm exaggerating a little) after finishing university. I strongly suspect I'm gonna miss all my 'mos. Can I get some suggestions for some online gay communities I could join? I'm not talking about sites for activism/politics or hookups, more like a place to vote for my favorite underwear brands and for intercourse about which sex toys to get. Gay blogs/publications are also welcome, although I'm primarily looking for something more like a forum.

Joe. My. God. is a great blog - a nice mix of politics, current events, and fun. The commenting community there is pretty good and thoughtful. I know it's not exactly what you are asking for, but he has a nice blogroll, and some ads on his site that might steer you in that direction :)

I have friends who get their gay snark/chat fix from Datalounge.

Best answer: I've been watching this question hoping for a better answer. Twenty years ago it was soc.motss on Usenet, but like all Usenet communities that's pretty much gone (some of the old regulars still talk on Facebook). I could wax on about the death of gay culture, the perils of normalization, blah blah blah but that's not helpful.

One thing that might be helpful is Butt Magazine. It started out as a zine published in the Netherlands but it's morphed in part to an online community. I don't participate in it myself, so can't comment, but it seems more intelligent than just "who wanTs to parTy TonighT?".

Response by poster: Thank you for your thoughts. Datalounge in particular looks like what I'm looking for.
