Kidney Stone Birthday

I had surgery this morning to remove another kidney stone. Tomorrow is my birthday and 4 year anniversary with my boyfriend. Any ideas on how to have a special day in the house? More info inside...

Every year we plan a 3-4 day long weekend to celebrate my Birthday and our Anniversary which both fall on the 7th.
I also found out my cousin died and it's a homicide investigation... and that really put a damper on the week. I won't be able to go to the funeral. Yesterday I was in horrible pain and the doctor scheduled surgery for me this morning. Everything went well but I'm in no condition to leave the house and probably won't be tomorrow. My boyfriend already gave me some beautiful jewelry earlier this week to wear out for the dinner we canceled. My present was paying for the hotel - which was cancelled. So I feel kind of bad not getting him anything special.

TLDR;
So, no vacation, no sex, no alcohol!
Which leaves us with....??
I don't have any friends where I live now - so it's just me and the boyfriend.
Any ideas on something we could do?

It's been a shitty week and I just want to have a nice day.

Best answer: Call an audible. Do whatever you feel like, maybe that means just ordering Thai food and watching Breaking Bad from the couch.

Reschedule your anniversary to July 7th. It can be even better and more special then because you'll both be dealing with less shitty stuff.

Good luck with everything and feel better!

Postpone your anniversary. It's not a big deal.

Nth'ing "postpone." I've celebrated multiple birthdays and anniversaries weeks away from the actual dates because of intervening events.

Best answer: Agree with postpone and it might be really fun to spend the day planning a new vacation for the postponed anniversary, looking up fun things to do, finding restaurant menus, etc. - IF you find that kind of thing fun of course.

Oh! And your birthday. Missed that on the first read. Reschedule your birthday. I've done it. People do it. It's a thing people do.

So...happy birthday...and feel better soon!

Postpone the dinner and weekend do both when you are more in the mood and healthy.

Spend this weekend doing nice, pampering, fun things from home. Order in, or have him get take out. Nearly ANY restaurant will do it so it doesn't have to be shitty.

Download some movies from your cable.

See who you can get to come to the house to do things for you. Massage? Nails. Dog Grooming?

You can celebrate your birthday with fancy cupcakes and very nice coffee.

Life is full of disappointments. Don't let any of this ruin your day.

Happy Birthday!

Spend a few days watching guilty pleasure tv on dvd together and eating foods that won't cause you distress but that you might not otherwise indulge in (e.g. Game of Thrones + ice cream)

I too have had a health disaster spanning my birthday and my boyfriend's. But I've planned a 3-day getaway in July that includes couples massage blah blah so I feel like we'll have a double celebration -- our birthdays and my return to health! (Fingers crossed)

Movie marathon? With some kind of sparkly party decor tossed around the room and order in take out?

My youngest son's birthday is on my wedding anniversary. When I was married, we routinely postponed one of the two celebrations to a nearby weekend. So I think it is okay to do something bigger later but I think it would still be nice to have a little fun tomorrow.

Happy birthday!

Response by poster: Update: ended up in the ER and getting a cocktail of drugs. Just waking up now!
