How to find a Web designer to improve a current design?

I have mostly completed a website design for a small company - logo, colors, info architecture - but the visual effect of all the elements together isn't.. quite.. "there" yet. How would I go about finding a Web designer who could improve the design "the rest of the way"?

For example - take the existing elements and, either modify some, or add a couple of touches here & there, to pull the design together into a more attractive, visually "tight" design.

I know how to go find a design agency to create a new idea from scratch, but how do you go about finding a designer (or design team/agency) to take an existing design & *improve* it?

Craigslist? You’re in NYC - there are many people who would compete for that opportunity.

Iterating on a existing design is something that any designer should be able to do. If a designer always wants to start from scratch they're not really doing their job properly IMHO. So the same way you'd find any other designer -- which depends mostly on your budget -- should work for this as well.

(Of course this does depend on the quality of your almost-there design...)

As you look, keep in mind that many "Web Designers" are really "Web Developers". You'd be ahead of the game by looking for a Graphic Designer, ideally one with good experience designing for the Web.

Best answer: I might be able to help you if you want to PM me the details. Otherwise, you can check out sites like Sortfolio or Behance and look thru a ton of portfolios.

Best answer: You can also look on Dribbble. If you want an economical contractor, you could try an independent contractor site like Elance or a design contest site like Crowdspring. There was an AskMeFi question yesterday from a graphic designer and you might find some useful information among those answers in terms of how to give guidance to your web designer.
