What Xbox games would a sneak enjoy?
March 5, 2013 7:40 PM

I love games where I can employ stealth, magic, and/or unusual skills (or sometimes weapons) to move through the storyline. I really enjoyed Dishonored, Far Cry 3, Portal (especially 2), Warp, and both Bioshock games. What other Xbox games would I enjoy?

I really did not enjoy Dead Space 2 (too much coming at me too fast and not enough power to defeat enemies early in the game), nor did I like the Halo series very much (too much boring shooting). I played Skyrim before I got my bearings with the first-person navigation and didn't love it, but I'm willing to go back, even though I remember it as a little too loosely guided for me and perhaps a little grind-y.

I also tend play these kinds of games very slowly, if that makes any difference.

I found Splinter Cell: Conviction to be a pretty good time. Is great for sneaky.

I think the Splinter Cells really blew up that sneaky genre.

Both the recent Batman games sound right up your alley.

Seconding Deus Ex.

Oh, and the Arkham games.

Mark of the Ninja is downloadable and it is sneaky as fuck. I mean, you're a ninja. You better be.

Deus Ex, both of the arkham games, mark of the ninja, and the Metal Gear Solid collection, if you never played those games on ps2/psp.

Try Skyrim again, if you have the navigation figured out. I played it as a sneaky guy (Khajiit FTW!), and it's an amazing game.

Don't worry about playing it slowly; my playthrough clocked in at 111 hours.

You can play Skyrim in 3rd person (I believe if you push in the right stick). That really helped me enjoy it a lot more. I didn't play a stealth character, but I've seen videos on youtube and you can do some crazy damage if you play that way.

Deus Ex has a specific Achievement that you unlock for not killing anyone (except in the boss fights) in the entire game, so basically you can play the whole thing by sneaking around avoiding detection and/or knocking bad guys out.

Skyrim is a lot of fun as a sneaky character. Look into joining the Thieves Guild and/or the Dark Brotherhood and follow their storylines. My personal favorite build for maximum sneaky fun is a thief with a focus on sneak, archery, and illusion magic. Cast frenzy from afar and make the bad guys kill each other for you! Conjuration is also a fun school--with quiet casting (Illusion tree), you can summon things right on top of a bandit camp.

Hitman Absolution is pretty sneaky. It's a bit more linear than previous iterations, but I had fun with it. Hitman Blood Money is looking a bit dated these days, but the mechanics are superb.

A BIT of a stretch, but Mass Effect 2 and 3 can be played as a sneaky Infiltrator-class character. There's still a bunch of open combat, but sneaking to get CLOSE to whack a bad guy is immensely satisfying in the layouts of that game.

You might enjoy Kingdoms of Amalur. The combat is really fun and good mix of stealth, magic, and brute force, but the story/world is a little bland.

One can develop a pretty good stealth base character in both Skyrim and Fallout 3.

Seconding Amalur. It has a bit of everything but sneaky is one of the three main character archetypes along with Magic and Combat.

The new Tomb Raider game lets you sneak about, though I don't think you can avoid direct combat entirely. Lots of contextual actions like zip line and wall climbing too.

You may want to track down Sneak King for shits and giggles. It was a promo game released by burger king back in 2006 that has you sneaking up on people to surprise them with food from burger king. It's beyond awful but in a good way.

Ubisoft's "Prince of Persia" (2008) game is one of my favorites of this generation and has much of what you're looking for (janky combat aside)

Dark Souls is what you are looking for, especially if you like to take your time. You have to in that game.
