Help Me Get Short Chic Hair in the Bay Area
September 7, 2012 12:13 PM
I'm looking for a whiz for women's short, chic, sexy haircuts in the East Bay or San Francisco. Please share your recommendations and experiences!
I just moved back to the Bay Area and need to find someone who can help me with the short hair look that I'm looking for- one that's chic, sexy, feminine and frames my face nicely. Blowdrying is fine. Cut will probably involve a lot of texturizing. Live in Berkeley but willing to travel. Thank you!

James at Zip Zap in the Haight has been cutting my hair into a variety of short, chic styles for years. I love him to pieces, and I hear good things about other stylists there, too.

Eddie or Clar at Zip Zap. James there has only cut my hair once, but did a fine job. I have short hair and am female.

I can personally vouch that mostlymartha and rtha have fantastic hair. Sounds like Zip Zap is the place!

And if gingerbeer weren't on a plane right now, she would sing Clar's praises, so I will do so on her behalf: Clar does great hair! Cut and color both!
We should just have a meetup there already.

Tiffany at the Pin-Up Parlor in Berkeley. The woman is a genius, and she uses really great products (Davines).

Sean Rae who used to be at Edo and/or Zip Zap. Me-mail me for his number if you are interested.

I can also testify that Clar gave me a super awesome short bob haircut. The next stylist who saw my hair 6 months later was like "oh, someone did a lot of work shaping your hair the last time you got it cut."
I'm also in the East Bay and was looking for a less expensive and closer to home alternative and have been considering Virginia Perez at Vika Salon (she's the owner and only stylist, I believe.) Her reviews on yelp are very good but I have yet to give her a try!

Sean Rae used to cut my hair, and is who referred me to Clar. It's a small world of Zip Zap love here.

Lycia (formerly at On Mars, now at her own salon ChopSooEee, did amazing things for my hair for 10 years, up until I moved away. She gave me awesome short haircuts that always looked great as they grew out, which rocked since I often went longer than I should have between cuts. Most highly recommended!

I recommend Emmie at Jubilee Salon in SF. She has moved me from short to long and over again without a terrible mullet phase. I like how she is able to give my fine hair body and she keeps me stylish. I know she can work the latest trends, but I really like how she doesn't keep me too fashion forward. That is, I don't want to be able to look at a picture and place the year based on a transitory hair fad and, really, I'm getting too old for that kind of thing anyway. She cuts my hair so that if I go too long without a trim or cut, it doesn't look terrible. She's attentive to concerns and she asks questions so she knows what you want. Emmie has been designated "hair goddess" by many, many people and I'm sure you'll be pleased with her cut.

(Well, I've heard some of the other 17 Jewels stylists are capable, too).
