Makeout Mix: Classic Rock Edition

My BF and I like making out. A lot. I've made a playlist on my ipod for this purpose, but we like different genres and this playlist is heavy on stuff I like (newer indie/electronic). He does enjoy it, but I'd like to add some appropriate classic rock (his favourite genre) as a surprise for the next time we're messing around.

Not too picky on vibe as long as it's more or less makeout appropriate.

So, what did folks kiss to in the 60's, 70's and possibly 80's?

Best answer: No discussion of making out and classic rock is complete with John Scalzi's blog post about Journey's album Escape as the ultimate make out album.

So Journey - Escape - the entire album.

Best answer: Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith

I have a good (female) friend who absolutely swears by Led Zeppelin as make-out music that does the job for her.

Best answer: "Every Breath You Take" by The Police. Summer '83 that song was in heaaaavy rotation. Other stuff that comes to mind: Born to Be Wild (Steppenwolf), Satisfaction (The Stones), Comfortably Numb (Pink Floyd), Whole Lotta Love (Led Zep), With or Without You (U2), Walk This Way (Aerosmith).

On preview, oh yeah, Sweet Emotion's a good one.

Best answer: According to Nick Hornby's excellent book, Songbook, Santana's 'Samba Pa Ti' is great for this purpose (a claim which I have both independently tested and verified on several occasions.)

Best answer: Tommy James and the Shondells' "I Think We're Alone Now" comes to mind. I've also found Donovan's "Sunshine Superman" LP to be weirdly effective for make-out purposes.

Best answer: Heart - Magic Man

Best answer: Also, Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight, Steve Miller Band's Fly Like An Eagle (to a lesser extent), Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, The Beatles' Here Comes The Sun & Yesterday, Love Hurts by Nazareth, Peter Frampton's Do You Feel Like We Do (Live) (for sheer length of song and instrumental segment although it's heavier in the beginning and end - also one of the biggest songs of the entire 1970's.)

Gosh, I could go on forever, but I'll let others chime in as I have to pee and go to the grocery store.

Best answer: Damn, "Magic Man" - yeah, that's a good one. "Dreamboat Annie" is kind of a classic mid-70s foreplay soundtrack, now that I think about it.

Best answer: Anything on the Dazed and Confused and Virgin Suicides soundtracks would work... I'm thinking Strange Magic might be good...

Crimson and Clover by Tommy James & the Shondells
Let's Spend the Night Together by the Stones
Teenage Kicks by the Undertones

Best answer: Roxy Music's Siren album, particularly Side One, was practically a 70s musical blueprint for making out (from the subtle sexy groove of Love is the Drug to the mellow cuddle-up End of the Line to the orgasmic Whirlwind:

Love is the Drug

End of the Line

Whirlwind

Best answer: It's a bit longer than the average AOR track, but Traffic's Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys has it, tempowise. If not Low Spark, then maybe Dear Mr. Fantasy.

CSN's Wooden Ships.

Best answer: Words from Mike Damone in Fast Times at Ridgemont High: "And five, now this is the most important, Rat. When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV."

For me though, the only makeout worthy song on Led Zepeplin IV is "Stairway to Heaven."

There's also Meat Loaf's "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" a song about making out.

Although not "classic rock" in the true sense, Bryan Ferry's "Slave to Love" was what I'd put on as I turned down the lights in the mid 80s.

Best answer: "Simply Irresistable" and possibly the entire "Heavy Nova" album it comes from. The artist is Robert Palmer.

Also, the "Hysteria" album by Def Leppard, or at least a lot of the songs from it.

Best answer: There's as it should have been and as it actually was.

No question, in my corner of mid-70s hormone-infused suburbia, the absolute #1 makeout record was side one of The Best of Bread. Side one was too ROCK. The girls didn't like it that much.

Reality sucks.

Best answer: Side one was too ROCK

Sorry, Side 2 was too ROCK. Side 1 was exactly like this.

Best answer: Hate to be the one who puts it this way, but I can't believe we're this far down the thread without some Marvin Gaye.

Best answer: Whether or not this is applicable depends on your definition of "making out," I think. But an old boyfriend of mine once said that the Stones' It's Only Rock And Roll was the absolutely best music to fuck to. (Yes, we field-tested his theory. I don't know about "best," but it worked.)

Best answer: Ooh, Carsonb - how about Al Green or Dusty Springfield?

But those may be more soul. As for Rock, there's also Paul McCartney Maybe I'm Amazed or the Stones' Wild Horses, or Patti Smith's Because The Night.

Best answer: Consider that his favorite music might not be makeout music. Instead, aim for the music that was popular when he was 13-16 years old, whenever that was. That's his prime music imprinting time.

Also, a lot of cock rock voices here. Where's my Debbie Harry and Joan Jett and Stevie Nicks?

Best answer: My wife and I spent a lot of time wine tasting on our honeymoon. At one particular winery, we saw a youngish (30-somethings) couple pulled up right next to our car in the parking lot as we were walking into the winery. We went in, did the tasting, and headed out (nothing grabbed our tastebuds there) as we got to the parking lot, we heard Foreigner's I Wanna Know What Love Is BLASTING out of a closed car. Turns out the aforementioned couple decided that this particular winery's parking lot was the perfect location for some heavy petting to cheesy power ballads. I wouldn't describe it as particularly sexy, but it was AWESOME.

"Fleetwood Mac" (1975) - The whole album

Sunshine Of Your Love - Cream

Foxy Lady - Jimi Hendrix

Oh my gosh, this:

Moondance - Van Morrison

And here's something electronic (a bit of drums and flute, too), but definitely classic (1970)!

great song, but credit where it's due. That's Bob Weir era Fleetwood Mac.
