How do I get my lithium level up in a day safely?
August 16, 2012 3:45 PM   Subscribe

I need to get a Quest Diagnostics lithium level reading tomorrow and haven't taken lithium in over 6 months. My prescription asks that I take 1500mg a day. I'm court ordered to be on medication so I need the test to show that I've been actually taking my lithium. Is it safe for me to take 1500mg of lithium today and take the amount I am prescribed in the morning before my lithium level reading tomorrow? Disclaimer: I have been just as stable if not more without taking my prescription meds. I do not believe in pharmaceuticals and have been seeing a homeopathic doctor to fulfill my body chemistry needs and it has been working very well for me. Thanks for listening, everyone.

This post was deleted for the following reason: This appears to be a question asking directly how to violate a court order, which we're not super ok with. -- restless_nomad

I'm sure you've thought about asking a psychiatrist this, but it can be hard to get ahold of one.

A pharmacist may be able to answer this question for you easily, accurately and for free.

homeopathic doctor

Please tell me you mean holistic or something. Yes, go see someone, anyone, who has earned some letters after their name.

I am not a pharmacist, just a person who took lithium in the past, but I don't think this is safe, nor do I think it would actually work. But please ask someone more qualified than us before you do anything, and I strongly suggest it be a person who works with pharmaceuticals.

It's pretty easy to link your metafilter username to what appear to be your real name and identity and since it appears you're making statements regarding a deliberate violation of your terms of parole/probation/something else you might consider asking for a retroactive anonymizing of this post.

If a court has ordered you to take lithium, then you are trying to circumvent the law. Not sure if I have an opinion about that or not, but I think it's not allowed here. See here: "Common reasons for thread removal are chatfilter questions, open-ended hypothetical questions, rants posing as questions, questions asking how to do things that are illegal or borderline illegal..."
