How can I best clean up after poppy seeds?

My beloved greatly enjoys bagels with poppy seeds. I feel like I can never get my kitchen truly clean of them. Help!
Yeah, so the poppy seeds are effing everywhere. I have tried putting the toaster on top of a cookie sheet to corral them, and he is making efforts to run a sponge over the counter after himself. But the poppy seed are so tiny, they get everywhere. They are in the minute cracks between the sink and the counter. They are in the little cracks between the floor tiles. They never seem to completely rinse out of the sink. They seem to be impossible to completely eradicate. Must I put up with this? Is there a magic trick to getting these buggers completely under control?

Yeah, you'll never get them. It's a waste of time to try.
Don't worry. Your kitchen is still clean.

Could you try one of those cutting boards that fits over part of the sink (example here)? Then that could be your new Poppyseed Containment Unit, where all bagels are unwrapped, cut, and transferred to a plate that travels to/from the toaster.

Cut them standing over the sink, so that the seeds fall into the sink, and don't roll all over and off the counter. (In my experience, most of the seed-spillage occurs while cutting them.)

When he pulls the bagel out of the bag, he should take it over to the trash or sink and brush it off. Yes, this is a really unappealing action to him - he's losing precious poppyseeds!!!! - but really, those loose ones were going to fall off anyway as soon as he started cutting, so he might as well knock them off in a controlled manner. This won't solve the whole problem, as more will fall off later on in the slicing and toasting process, but will cut down the volume of loose seed by maybe half.
