Pupa ID

Entomology filter: Can anybody ID this interesting pupa that I found in my back yard.

It was found resting on the dirt, not buried and I'm in the Boulder, CO area.

I was going to guess cicada, but it looks like a sphinx moth pupa.

Put it in a jar with holes in the lid, shelter it from the elements, and see what comes of it.

If not a sphinx specifically, I would guess something in the Saturniidae family.
If I were you I would definitely keep it, in airy container, to see what awesome sort of awesome moth comes out of it, and then release it on the nearest tree to where you found it the night after it ecloses.

Response by poster: It's much smaller than either the Sphinx Moth or Saturniidae, it's closer to half an inch long.
