More tech, less clutter

I've got the Samsung Nexus Google phone with Google Wallet pre-installed. Now what? Is it worth using?
I thought it might be a check register app or something like that (yes, I still use a check register.) What it actually does sounds intriguing, but it seems awkward. Do any of you have experience with it?
I live in a semi-metro area and I don't drive. I pay for 99% of my purchases with plastic.

I have not used Google Wallet myself, but I just recently heard this piece about it on NPR and I have started to see the readers around at a few cash registers here in Silicon Valley. So I dunno, might be worth trying out.

I live in Canada, use Google Wallet, love it. You also get $10 prepaid when you sign up. I was surprised how many places take it as well.

Bit of a derail, but...wait...You got a Nexus? But it's not out yet!

Um, I just used it to buy two chocolate bars (bogo) at Rite Aid. Either it's out, or I've fallen down a rabbit-hole. Or I have no idea what Nexus you're talking about - which is completely possible, even probable.
Thanks everyone for your comments! Now it's time to wait for Google to let me sync up with my visa.
