Show me the Awesome!

I'm looking for images, most likely illustrations but photos might do, that depict the most absurd, over-the-top awesomeness. Imagine someone sat down and said "I'm going to draw the silliest, most awesome thing ever."

I don't mean pictures of, say, Superman, because he's awesome, or the Death Star, because it's impressive and really neat, I mean a picture of Jesus riding a Star Destroyer over the crowd of a KISS concert. Stuff like that. The sillier the better. I should laugh immediately after clicking on it.

This Star Wars rock concert is a good example.

The work of Brandon Bird is very much like what I'm after. Stuff like Christopher Walken building a robot in his garage or Michael Landon with a big dead squid.

This Fawkes/Codex (Wil Wheaton / Felicia Day) painting is another one.

Unintentional awesomeness might also work, such as these Stevie Nicks fantasy drawings..

I'm not after screenshots of iconic scenes in film or TV. Some album covers might work, as long as they're over-the-top and not just a picture of, say, David Bowie.

I know I can Google "Awesome" and there are probably sites that have a lot of this sort of thing, but I really like the way Metafilter can filter this stuff down to only the best.

I'm more after pop culture references to straight out fantasy stuff. Safe For Work links preferred.

Sorry about the multiple use of the word "awesome", I know that's sort of overdone, but that's really the best word to describe what I'm looking for.

A friend works at Viget and the site/logo they made for an internal bowling tournament has always stuck in my head (the manatee has nunchuks!).

This is Wil Wheaton riding a pegasus kitten attacking Orc John Scalzi (SF writer) with a spear. It inspired a fanfiction contest turned into An Online Chapbook to benefit a Lupus charity.

Response by poster: So far these are all exactly what I'm looking for. I guess the central theme is that they combine various awesome things. I mean, lions, sidecars, motorcycles, and velodromes are all awesome all on their own. But you combine them and now you've got something amazing.

Robot dinosaurs with lasers?

This is the first thing that came to mind.
"My succulent torso, an aerial surprise" gets me. Oh, NSFW due to naughty words.

I hate to give Thomas Kinkade anything, but NASCAR® Thunder — The 50th Running of the Daytona 500® is only lacking Wil Wheaton riding a laser shooting dinosaur, but I'm pretty sure there are lasers in there somewhere.

Do you not know about the best picture ever?

I saw this long ago and saved a copy for my own personal entertainment. I also found (and saved) an animated version and the best picture never.

How to make an awesome entrance in Mother Russia

It's a video, but you could capture the appropriate still frame.

I've always loved this image of a gorilla high-fiving a great white shark in front of a big explosion. I'm having trouble finding its origin - I'm pretty sure I remember first seeing it as a t-shirt on a Threadless.com-type site.

Suckerpunch dream-WWI sequence (youtube)

It's like this scene was the result of a drunken brainstorming session. I imagine it going something like this:
"WWI trench warfare... with tanks and stuff! That's pretty exciting!"
"Ooh yeah! With bi-planes! Dogfighting bi-planes!"
"No! TRI-planes!"
"And Nazis!"
"Wait, weren't nazis World War Tw..."
"STEAM-POWERED NAZIS!"
"Ooh ooh ooh! Steam-powered Nazi ZOMBIES!!!!"
"OMG! YES! With airships!"
"And giant robots!"
"Giant robots? Steam-powered! Steam-mecha!"
"A PINK mech! The sexy tech girl can drive!"
"A HELLO KITTY MECH?! OMG YES!"

And on like that. Then the meeting notes got handed to the SFX department.
"But this is just a list of... stuff"
"Yup. Make that."

Later in the movie, a (B-52?) bomber goes up against a dragon. Just because.

I love you, internet.

My personal favorite is "Diver Punching a Shark" by sharpshirter. I want to give them a shout out cause I got a free iPhone cover for bargaining with them at a booth in DC's Eastern Market.

You need to check out the paintings of James Hance. He does awesome all the time.

Also these Renaissance-style Star Wars works..

Three Wolf Moon is all kinds of (unintentional) awesome.

And on the understated side, of course, there's Trogdor.
