What are (hands down) the most interesting BLOGS you can't wait to come back to time and time again? What makes them compelling and why are they sustainable? I think it goes without saying Mashable is at least on the top 10, so who else?

Mashable looks more like a news aggregator than a blog.

For me, it's all about the person doing the writing, more than the topic. Roger Ebert's blog is one of my favorites.

Well, I got it among my Single-Topic Blog bookmark collection.... I'm not sure if by Blogs you mean the kind when someone blurbs regularly about their lives but whatever, I'm gonna share with you a big fav of mine:
http://www.badassoftheweek.com/

The author comes up each week with a new "badass", which can range from fictional characters to real-world heroes to non-human things... All have in common their badassitude.

I am mainly following it for the stories of real people that come up, some are historical legends and others real documented accounts, but it's always worth the read, especially if you enjoy the author's never ending supply of amazement and superlatives to describe their story and why they are badasses.

I've discovered a lot of mindbogglingly awesome things from that blog, and many amazing heroes I'd have otherwise never heard from in neither my history books nor in news media.

Well if you're going to include aggregators, I'd have to say boingboing is definitely one of my all-time favorites. It covers a wide range of topics in US and foreign news, as well as some creative tech and art posts. You'll also see some generally geeky/nerdy posts. The comments are what brings me back to it (much like metafilter) - they can often be high quality, insightful, and funny.

Jason Kottke's is obvious, but consistently interesting.

The other favorite on the blue is OkTrends, from OkCupid, which attempts to take user submitted data from their dating site and draw conclusions.

Although he publishes rather sporadically, Dick Cavett's blog on the New York Times website is fabulous. Great writing.
