Recommendation for an ISP in Japan
September 27, 2011 6:39 PM

Having moved recently to Japan, I'm looking for an internet provider. Basically, I have my own router (that I bought in Japan about 10 years ago), which I can configure by myself. I am looking for a cheap plan, preferably without a commitment.

This isn't a great place to ask this question because there aren't a ton of Japanese users on MeFi. I'd recommend asking at the Tokyo Linux Users Group as there are regular discussions on that topic.

What's your living situation? Are you in a house, apartment, or マンション? If you're renting, your 不動産業者 (real-estate agency) likely contracts with one of the providers and will probably help you arrange for a line to be set up. (At the very least they should be able to point you in the right direction.)

If that doesn't work, the veterans on the forums at Gaijinpot.com may be able to give you better info than you'll get here.
