So, can my suit be sewn?

I bought a suit a few months ago and I just discovered it has a hole in the sleeve. Is this something that can possibly be fixed? If yes, who should I take it to in NYC?

Here's the sad picture.

Is this an easy fix? Is it something I can trust my dry cleaner to do? He said it would cost $90 and didn't sound confident that it could be fixed.

If not him, should I take it to a serious tailor in NYC? Any recommendations for someone good and not super expensive? (In Brooklyn or Manhattan, preferably.)

Or do you just think it's time to buy another suit?

You want something often called "invisible weaving," (or "reweaving," or "invisible darning") and it looks like you can get it here in NYC. You can see pictures of what's involved here. I wouldn't give it to somebody who didn't sound confident, and I would go ahead with it if you like the suit and it's otherwise in good shape. The hole is very small and the fabric not too fine; I suspect you could get it done for a bit less than $90 (north of $50, but).

this can absolutely be rewoven as long as the threads can be matched. Take it to a good tailor; he'll know exactly what to do (which is probably to hire it out to somebody he trusts who actually knows how to do it).

yes, don't let the dry cleaner do it. We tried that with one of my husband's suits and they did not do a good job at all. This is a job for a true tailor or reweaving shop, not someone who just does alterations.

The best in the city is French-American Reweaving on 57th Street, but I don't know what they would charge.
