I have ten thousand email addresses. Who may I spam?
a) family and friends
b) facebook and gplus friends
c) people I communicated with via email, even only once
d) 2000 email addresses harvested from a ridiculously open directory on a website narrowly targeted at my niche market
e) email addresses collected from businesses and organizations in my niche market via web surfing
f) email addresses from people writing their names down on paper at public gatherings
g) email addresses online surveys (LimeSurvey, SurveyMonkey) about my business idea
h) email addresses from Metafilter (4 people - narrowly targeted -- Canadian plus some other qualifiers) - same goes for other websites.
I have been collecting these email addressees since 1995. The addresses are nawworly targeted.

Spamming works like flossing. You only have to floss the teeth you want to keep, and you only get to spam friends you intend to lose.

Best answer: If you have 10,000 email addresses that you've been collecting since 1995, you're going to find that 9,000 are no longer active.

The opposite of "spam," email which one wants, is called "ham" ....
So. You may "spam" anyone you like. But be aware that nobody wants it. As such, you'll burn a lot of bridges.

Is this a stunt post or something? Because I can't imagine why anyone would think it's okay to ask who you can spam. Let alone who you can spam going back SIXTEEN YEARS.

Best answer: By the look of this (and presuming you are in Canada) you may spam any of these people who have explicitly given you permission.

You know, my aunt thought i'd be happy getting that super-text-heavy Tea Party-esque email about Hillary Clinton that one time, but...no.
Okay, I'll play nice. Study your ISP to see what the rules are about mass-email (lots of them have a cutoff point of how many people you can cc on a single email, and if you exceed it they'll block your email from being sent). Then cull your list accordingly.
