Where to upload photos in Europe
August 16, 2011 2:04 PM
Need to upload pictures from a camera while abroad in Central Paris, Venice, Florence and room.
I am paranoid about losing the photos that I have take while in Europe. I am currently in Paris, close to the Eiffel tower and I need recommendations on where to plug my USB camera in and upload my pics to my amazon cloud drive. I also need a similar setup in Rome, Venice and Florence, Italy. Thank you very much!!

The relevant search term in French is cybercafé or Internet-café. I'd go during the day to avoid teenagers playing videogames. Montparnasse seems to have a few of them within easy walking distance of the Métro. If you're not used to typing on a French keyboard, ask for an English one (un clavier anglais) - this will save you a huge headache. They really don't seem to differ much on rates - just pick one that looks clean and where you have some hope of being understood (some of the proprietors, in my experience, didn't even speak French, let alone English).

In Italy you should rely on your hotel's wi-fi, free wi-fi is scarce. McDonald's has it if you can find one, and you don't have to be inside or use any code to connect.

If you're already on the road this advice is too late, but in the future you can swap a standard SD card for an Eye-Fi card. It's an SD card with built-in WiFi, will upload your photos automatically when you're in range of supported wireless.

Rome, Venice, and Florence are full of Internet joints. All but the most primitive will also be set up to copy your photographs to DVD, as will be any shop with "photo" or "foto" in the window.

I'm sure you'd either be able to find a cafe in Italy as well or have access at your hotel.
