What is this fossil?? Can't figure it out for the life of me!

What is this fossil?? Can't figure it out for the life of me!

My father collected fossils for years and after he passed away, I got them. Most were obvious but I cannot for the life of me figure this one out. It definitely appears to be fossilized and stone-like now, weighs exactly 16 ounces and is 3.5" long by 3" wide. HERE is a PIC. Please help me identify this. Thank you so much!

Looks like a weathered brachiopod.

Looks to me like it might have formed on the inside of a hard clam or similar bivalve.

Best answer: That's definitely a bivalve of some kind - comparable to this, for instance.

See these pictures of the "butter clam" for comparison. (I'm not saying your fossil is a butter clam, but it's probably related.)
