How did you (or your friends!) find love in New York?

Finding love in New York is hard. I'd love to hear your stories about how it happened to you!

I'm a 27-year-old single Brooklyn girl who has been told repeatedly by female friends, co-workers, and roommates that it's impossible to meet a partner in this city. Maybe I'm naive, but I find this to be a bitter and defeatist mantra.

One year ago my boyfriend of five years and I broke up and moved out of our shared apartment. Since then I've had a smattering of dates and one fun--but ultimately ill-advised--2-month rebound.

I would like to be in a new relationship. Statistically it is harder for women to meet men in NYC than in other cities. But I also know people discover each other and fall in love every day here. This is where you come in! Please share your stories about finding love, whether you're a girl or a guy. Keep me happy and hopeful! I've been listening to too many sad love songs lately.

This is not what AskMe is for, but if you repost next week with something like "give me dating advice for my situation, given X, Y, and Z", you should be fine.
