Visiting the University of Kentucky at Lexington in June... how to get there, how to survive without a car, things to see, etc.
I will be visiting the University of Kentucky at Lexington for a week and I'm trying to figure out how manage travel and my stay.
Airline tickets to Louisville or Cincinnati are cheaper than to Lexington, but is there safe and convenient bus service to Lexington? Is it better to pay to fly to Lexington? Is there a bus from the airport to the campus?
Can I survive without a car? I would much prefer not to drive, but can if I need to.
Any other suggestions about things to do, places to see, awesome people to meet would be great.
Thanks!

I haven't been to Lexington in a long time, so all I can say is if you have any affinity for Southern food, eat here.

Lexington is a very walkable city. UK is not as close to downtown Lexington as UGA is to downtown Athens, but it's closer than UT is to downtown Austin. If you are staying at UK then you will be within reasonable walking distance to lots of cool places. There's a good variety of restaurants and bars around campus. I also recommend going downtown for Thursday Night Live if you happen to be there on a Thursday. If you want to do something more elaborate, like see some horse races or follow the Bourbon trail, then you'll need a car.
So the short answer is if you can get to and from the airport then you can do your trip without a car.
