Model ship building help.

Model ship kit building help. My first kit, an 1819 Virginia Schooner by Artesania Latina, is great fun to work on, but the (lack of) directions is frustrating and may be leading me to make crucial mistakes. Googling takes me to the same few sites which do offer some help but not enough. Specifically, I am planking the hull (second layer) and also fear that I’ve botched the stern configuration. Have 2 books. Both gloss over details of construction. I welcome specific suggestions on planking the hull, where to find pictures of the stern, books to get, any and all help appreciated.

I haven't built a model ship in years, but my dad still does and these are the books he recommended. All should be available at a good hobby shop - they are definitive texts according to him.

Ship Modeling Simplified: Tips and Techniques for Model Construction
Planking Techiques for Model Ship Builders
Ship Modeling from Stem to Stern

Also, he recommended I go to bed.
