What is that stuff called, anyway?

Star Wars Nerdery: Once, an indeterminate time ago, I was reading something about the making of the original Star Wars models. They used a term (named for one of the model makers?) for a certain kind of detailing. More specifically, it was used to describe the horizontal trench running along the length of a Star Destroyer. What is this term?
Could it have been greebles, the little details added to the ship's exterior to make it more visually interesting?

This is kind of a tangent, but I was at my friend's house this weekend and he has this FANTASTIC hardcover huge book about the making of the models for all the Star Wars films. I don't recall the title but I'm sure you can find it on Amazon. It even has a glossary of terminology in the back!
