Wanted: Free Birdcall MP3s
January 28, 2011 8:04 AM
I'm looking for free birdcall and birdsong files on the internet that I can download.
In an effort to passively learn the calls of certain birds, I plan to set my cell phone ringtone to a different bird call/song each month. I am aware of Naturesongs.com, and that is exactly what I'm looking for, but I would like some other websites to browse through as well.
I live in Indiana and would like to focus on birds common to my area but Naturesongs.com doesn't have files, for instance, on the American Goldfinch or the Carolina Chickadee. So that is why I would like some more options.

oh, that link plays embedded audio, btw. You'd need to use a sound recorder to save them.

There's a decent selection of MP3s here...I found that site on this list, which has lots of others too.

Wikimedia commons has a section of bird vocalizations. It doesn't have the best organization, but it's got your goldfinch and chickadee.

Thanks everyone for the great sites. The macaulaylibrary.org site is HUGE and I found not only the birds I wanted, but multiple recordings for each that I could choose from.
For those who want to do something similar but don't know how to copy the embedded audio files, I found this site's directions very easy to follow.
