Name That Song, Round 10,872

NameThatTuneFilter: heard a song earlier tonight while trying on shirts at Nordstrom Rack. Meant to Google the lyrics. Promptly forgot. Am now heartbroken.
From what I remember...
- Song had a Pete Yorn-ish sound/feel, but a little more "mainstream" sounding. Single male vocalist, guitars, alt-rock-esque - neither too heavy nor fancy, but awfully catchy.
- The tone was sorta defiant/regretful.
- The only lyrics snippets I remember - and am probably MISremembering - are "change is good" repeated a few times, and the main chorus/theme (repeated a bunch of times)... something like "I'm not gonna/won't/can't fit/slip/change into the mold/something you've got/made for me". I am PRETTY sure the world "darling" or "darlin'" was used at one point. TERRIBLY DESCRIPTIVE, I KNOW.

Maybe it's just the one by me, but the Nordstrom Rack I frequent is always playing the same mix on repeat. If there's some kind of Nordstrom Rack official mix tape, maybe you can search for that. It would have Put Your Records On and that lucky-I'm-in-love-with-my-best-friend song.

If it helps,. they were playing the Eclipse Vampire movie soundtrack thing in the store I was in a couple of months ago.

Response by poster: KogeLiz - you win not only best answer and a cookie, but a huge grin from me - Sense Field is one of Boyfriend-Thumbscrew's favorite bands, and they always remind me of falling in love with him (post-divorce but pre-me, he used to listen to "Save Yourself" obsessively, which I find almost painfully endearing).
