Akvavit in Portland, OR?

Where can I buy Akvavit/Aquavit in Portland, Oregon?

I know local distillers House Spirits make a Krogstad Aquavit, but I've never seen it in a liquor store. I don't need this specific Aquavit, any brand would do.

Does anyone know where I could purchase a bottle of the stuff in Portland? If I could buy it today, that would be fantastic.

Thanks for getting me drunk Norwegian style hive mind!

Best answer: House Spirits has a tasting room where they sell all their stuff. Give them a call!

Best answer: We bought a bottle (of House Spirits, in fact) at a liquor store on 12th & Hawthorn. Sorry, I can't remember the name of the store!

I'm pretty sure I have seen Aquavit at other liquor stores around town, though, so it might not be too hard to find.

Response by poster: Oh! The liquor store on 11th and Hawthorne. I'll give them both a call. Thanks!

Best answer: I have seen many House Spirits at the liquor store on Hawthorne between 36th x 37th as well...they have a pretty great selection there, if that's closer to you. House Spirit's tasting room is pretty amazing, and worth the trip, even if it's out of the way.

Best answer: One of the few benefits of the OLCC system is that everything is uniform and online:
http://www.olcc.state.or.us/pdfs/category_price_list.pdf

I only saw 3 aquavits, Krogstad at $24.45, Linie at $23.95 and Aalbord (under akvavit) at $21.95.

I've heard the liquor store in the Pearl caters (surprise!) to a more upscale crowd. If your local doesn't carry it, call them next.

furnace.heart: FWIW, that store is in the 40s, not the 30s on upper Hawthorne.

One of the better benefits is http://www.oregonliquorsearch.com/

Yes, an online database of what booze is where!

Response by poster: Well, I picked up a bottle of the Aalborg Akvavit and the Krosgstad! We've only tried the Aalborg so far, but it was decidedly delicious! Skol!

Mister Fabulous - that's a sweet idea for a site but as it pans out, it listed only one liquor store in Portland that sold one variety of Aquavit, and there are several that sell several...so maybe it isn't updated often? Seems like it's probably more useful if you don't live in the metro area. Still a great concept. Would love to see that developed.

Thank you everyone!
