Looking for a vaguely remembered book...

Looking for a vaguely remembered book, published (we believe) in the last 10 years.
My girlfriend is trying to remember the name of a book she encountered in an undergraduate class on contemporary fiction. She believes the author's name begins with a 'G,' maybe even sounded like 'Graves.' The book itself was primarily a collection of short stories - children's stories or structures that had been twisted to be more adult, somewhat in the vein of Angela Carter. It also featured several puzzles and riddles, including one logic puzzle or anagram type thing featuring several people in a neighborhood having affairs with one another.
One story my girlfriend remembers involved Aesop being driven over a cliff by townspeople, while the animals refused to help him.
The cover of the book featured a child holding a book, very brightly colored: blue, red/orange, and yellow, as she recalls.
The author apparently is also working with interactive texts.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
