DC Birthday Restaurant

DC FILTER: Good place for a 21st birthday dinner (maybe 8 - 12 people) near Washington, D.C./College Park area? Looking for non-chain restaurants, parking/metro accessible, and prices affordable by college student standards.

I guess the max we are thinking to spend + tip and maybe drinks is $30 per person.

All cuisines are welcome but Asian cuisine is preferred I guess.

Baltimore City is considered a bit far, but isn't entirely ruled out. If there is an _awesome_ chain we'll consider going there too.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Have you ever been to Franklin's in Hyattsville? It's a fun little brew pub, the food is worth eating, and you can get entree+a couple craft beers+tip for $30. Parking is easy, but it's a short hike from the closest metro.

Tiffin? Not Metro accessible, but parking is no problem.

Bangkok Bistro in Georgetown fits all of the above, and the birthday person eats for free.

Oh there's a great malaysian place in silver spring Mandalay... forget its name...

Ruan Thai is awesome as well.

Also... UDUPI PALACE... best indian vegetarian in the washington area.

none of these places are expensive.

Ethiopian, which is fun for a group. There are lots of choices downtown.

Mandalay is definitely a good choice, though.

Not sure that it makes a big difference but Mandalay is actually Burmese food. Either way, it is good and parking shouldn't be too bad. Could you be more specific about what type of "Asian cuisine" you and your friends prefer? Haven't been yet so can't offer any personal recs, but there are supposed to be a ton of really good Asian restaurants (including Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese) in Wheaton, MD. Here's a link to an undated Washington Post feature, with recommendations.

Udupi Palace in Langley Park has closed. See http://www.udupipalace.com/

Tiffin is still open.
