Student photographer looking for room/office space in Boston to use as a photo studio. Where should I look?

Hi all,

I am wondering in what areas around Boston should I look for in regards to finding a room/office space to use as my photography room studio.

I would not need much, just enough space for a backdrop stand and some lights.

Any ideas? My budget is roughly about $400 per month.

This might not be much help, and I don't know how much they paid, but my artist aunt and uncle had studio space in an old factory building in Lowell.

The Design Annex in Union Square, Somerville might work.

Have you tried Craigslist?

If you are talking about "Boston" area, then Jamaica Plain, Somerville, and Allston are probably your best bet. If you have access to a car and don't mind the 20 minute drive, many of the old mill towns have converted former factory space into lofts and artist space. Lowell, Lawrence, and Haverhill all have cheaper studio spaces than what you would find near the city. Besides Craigslist, you might want to check out ArtSpaceFinder, it focuses on the Boston and MA area.

You might want to look at Charlestown or other spots near the water as well, there is a fair amount of warehouse space over there that does not get used much anymore.

Artist Help Network has many links to sites that specialize in exactly this, it's where I first saw ArtSpaceFinder.
