Please help me find the name of the novel where God literally falls to Earth, stone dead, from Heaven.

I'm looking for the name of a novel in which God, portrayed as a gigantic being thousands of feet tall and weighing millions of pounds wearing robes and having a flowing white beard, quite literally falls to earth from heaven, stone dead. The story is all about the repercussions on Earth after this event.
Response by poster: Yes! I knew Ask MeFi would come through. Thank you phoenixy and Propsero.

Response by poster: Oh, and a follow up since my question got answered so quickly: Is it any good?

I quit reading it a few chapters in. So, for me, at least, the premise was more interesting than the execution.

I read the whole thing and didn't care for it much, but I wasn't interested in "questions about God" in the first place.

It was good, but I thought the followup Blameless In Abaddon was better. They put god on trial for allowing evil in the world- the section where they take a trip through the mind of god is really great.

It's the first of a trilogy--I read and enjoyed all three. Only Begotten Daughter by the same author is also pretty good.

I agree with InfidelZombie. Towing was pretty good, but Blameless was fantastic.

It might also be worth checking out Bible Stories For Adults by the same author.

I was reading Blameless In Abaddon on the bus, and a certain person's testimony made me cry uncontrollably in public. I've never had that happen before. It's an awesome book- funny, full of ideas, extremely creative. And it doesn't run out of steam like a lot of "big idea" books; the ending is fantastic. Again, Towing Jehovah is pretty good, but Blameless in Abaddon is a top 10 book.

Even if you enjoy his other books you might want to avoid This Is The Way The World Ends. If I remember it was fairly depressing and confusing than his other works. YMMV.

The pacing is erratic, but it's a worthwhile read.
