Name my friend's accordion
April 5, 2010 4:00 PM
Make my friend laugh: suggest a name for her new accordion.
My friend has just bought her first accordion, and it needs a name. While I rack my brain, what would you suggest she name it, interweb?

Where was it made? Is it Italian? If so, definitely something like Anotolio, Giuseppe, or Enzo. If it's German, give it a German name. Like Hans. Or Dedrich. Etc, etc.
And for some reason I'm thinking Cecil is a good accordion name.

Actually, I think Clambone is a perfect name for an accordion. what's the deal with your nickname, anyway?

Clambone was the name of a legendary blues musician in Neal Pollack's satirical rock and roll novel Never Mind the Pollacks. I liked the sound of it.

It sounds like what I think an accordian sounds like and it also somehow sounds like an affectionate nickname for an old sweet grandfather.

Glorious Revolutionary Accordion of the People, or Grap for short, which is the kind of sound an accordion makes. It can also be called Gloria.

FYI, I sent this link to my friend, and she said "I am laughing so hard I am crying!! I love that website!! BTW - it is Italian and a "ladies" model.
I think my favorite is "Death bellows" :) (at least until I learn to play it)"
Good job, Metafilter!

Well, if it's italian and a ladies model (do they make those? I'm more into electric guitars, admittedly), this italian here suggests "La Signora Fisarmonica" ("Fisarmonica" is italian for accordion)
