The [stumped][mefite][challenged] the [hive][mind].

When I was a little kid in the late seventies/early eighties, I had this plastic handheld word toy that I'd like to find again, but I'm struggling to even describe it.

I guess you could say the toy was meant to teach kids sentence structure and parts of speech. There was a red plastic component that contained tiles with words on them. You shook the toy, and the tiles would fall out into clear plastic slots. Each slot had something like ten or so tiles that could potentially fall into it, so that you would get a new sentence each time, like The [adjective] [noun] [verbed] the [adjective] [noun].

So you'd get sentences like "The [night][creature][hugged] the [beautiful] [tree]. for example. Each tile had imagery supporting the word. I remember how the "creature" picture amused me, so I'd keep shaking it until I got a sentence with the creature tile.

Does this ring a bell to anyone?

More on Sentence Nonsense at The Museum of Play. Dunno where you might find one-- I had four back in the day, to enable the entire Fairytale household to play along, but I believe they're gone now. :/
