Experiences with Midfirst bank in Arizona?

In my quest to find a new banking institution (in Arizona) I've come across Midfirst. The few reviews I have found give a positive impression. However, when I say 'a few' I mean VERY few (2). The Huffington Post's 'move your money' site gives it higher than a "B" rating, whatever that means.

Anyone out there have experience with that bank or any other 'smaller' banks in Arizona?

This would be for a personal checking account.

Why not a credit union? Credit unions exist to enrich their communities, while banks exists to make money for their investors.

I use Credit Union West due to their 2.01% APY rewards checking account, but there are plenty of other good choices. Interestingly I've never visited them in person (they're based in Glendale) by opening my account via fax and using the extensive (and free) shared branching service offered by nearly every credit union in the country.

If a higher yield is important to you I'd check out the rate wars that several Arizona banks are involved in. I guess everyone is hard up for new accounts?

Good luck!
