What is an embarrassing/funny/tragicomic thing you have done because of a low, low or no bank account? Lay it on me...

I know the recession is very real and not to be taken lightly. But, looking for some anecdotes anyway about times you were broke or getting pretty hungry anyway, like for example, when I was in college I would sometimes steal my younger brothers (like seven years younger!) allowance to buy beer. (I paid him back later, I promise...) (Not encouraging theft of any kind, of course.)

Went to my local public library and asked them to lend me a pound. Dear me, that is quite embarrassing.

My friends used to sell plasma in order to pay for concert tickets when we were in college. I begged out, citing the creepy factor, but they would donate twice a week for $25 a pop, with the added bonus of being able to get wicked drunk on only one drink later that night!

I have a feeling this is going to be called out as chatfilter, but:

I pawned my high school class ring to buy a romantic picnic dinner for me and my at-the-time boyfriend.

I have a good one:

When I first moved to Chicago I couldn't scrape together to pay for cooking gas, so it got cut off. I had no more stove, and no crockpot, so I used what I had: a crappy espresso maker.

I took a mason jar, filling it with water and a little rice, and then turned on the steam arm after putting the machine in the sink to keep the spray controlled. About 40 minutes later I had the soggiest rice ever. Then I realized I could also boil potatoes the same way.

I did this as food for maybe three or four weeks for meals.
