How long of an SMS message can I send, if my phone is on Fido, and the recipient is on Bell? 140 characters? 160?

How long of an SMS message can I send, if my phone is on Fido, and the recipient is on Bell? 140 characters? 160? Does it matter what kinds of phones or accounts we have? I have a... uh.... sensitive message I want to send to someone. It's 153 characters and I don't want it to get cut off....

140 is a hardware limit, but my carrier (AT&T) will span messages across however many individual SMS are necessary.

Bell phones can send SMS up to 140 characters, but Bell phones can RECEIVE 160 character SMS, it will just come in as two text messages.

The SMS message standard uses 140 bytes which works out to 160 characters (using a 7-bit characters).
