MovieFilter about young black news anchor

I'm looking for the following movie: late-80s or early-90s vintage dramedy, young black man working for the broadcast news media, fantasy sequences that somehow focused on the protagonist being "not black enough"!

I saw this movie on broadcast tv over the past couple of years and it's been bothering me ever since: what was it? There weren't any actors I recognized. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

That sounds almost like Hollywood Shuffle.

Probably not it (not about the news, ten years too late), but could it be Vin Diesel's Multi-Facial?

Response by poster: No, sadly, it's neither (it does sound like Hollywood Shuffle but it's about news reporters). I think the protagonist has some kind of relationship with a white female reporter at the station but I can't remember whether she's harrassing him or whether they have a one-night-stand.

Sorry, this is so thin!

Best answer: Is it Livin' Large?

It doesn't sound like it from your description, but it wasn't Putney Swope was it? If not you should see it.

None of these match but are kind of close:
