Help me figure out what movie this is

Man inherits fortune with a condition. He must work. Meets kid. Falls in love with kid's mother. Kid dies. What movie is it?

I saw this movie a while back, but I can't remember the name. I was sorting through a list of movies from 2004-2006, which is the period I think this movie is in... But it's a long list and I'm not even sure that movie was mainstream.
Any help?
I don't remember much of it, but I believe the man must go to work with a friend of his deceased relative, on a big field, doing hard work.
What I most remember do, is that he met a little girl, which is dying (of cancer I think), but at first he is unaware of that.
If I remember correctly, the kid dies on or near Christmas.

Dear god, I can't believe I know this either, but Siobhan is absolutely right.
Did they show this on long airplane flights or something? How in the world was I exposed to it?

By the way, why are you surprised you know it? Didn't like it? Wasn't very mainstream? Just curious.

For future questions like this, you may be able to use the IMDb plot keyword function. That's how I found the answer, and I've never even heard of this movie.

I watch very few movies, and the ones I do generally involve aliens, explosions, and nakedness. Frequently they include exploding naked aliens.
Said movie is very short on all three, and yet I remember significant portions of it.
