Confession: I'm a skirt chaser
December 5, 2008 11:19 AM

I love this skirt from Garnet Hill but it is no longer available in my size. Attempts to find a similar skirt have failed. Can you help?

I'm looking for a casual (like, to wear with tights, boots, and a sweater) black wool skirt that is slightly flared. Ideally it would come in petite XS or petite 2-4 (I'm only 5'0" tall), but if it's short enough then it can be a regular-person size 2.

I really liked the fabric, cut, and detailing of the Garnet Hill skirt. Everything else I've found so far has been too long or too dressy. Any ideas? Thank you for your help.

I saw this skirt from Anthropologie recently and think it meets some of your criteria. Apparently they don't have it the black skirt in your size online anymore (of course!), but maybe you have an Anthropologie store near you? I saw the skirt in the store and it's gorgeous, and I've been regretting not getting it myself. Good luck! I'm your height, too, and know how hard it is to find great clothes that fit well!

This is similar at Macy's.

I should clarify that I'm not hung up on the tie belt; the only reason I liked it in the Garnet Hill skirt was because it was removable (bulky under non-tucked-in things).

Why don't you get it hemmed?

I'm not petite, so please forgive if these don't fit the bill:

J. Crew Petite Francie skirt

Tocca skirt on Bluefly

Talbots A-line skirt

Semantiks skirt at Nordstrom

I got a skirt very similar to that at Banana Republic earlier this fall. It had the same pockets but buttons going down the front. It's cute enough for work, but still pretty casual. I don't see it online but you might be able to find it in a store, perhaps on the sale rack. I'm 5' and the petite xs fits well.

Word about Anthropologie: Even if they don't have your size listed on the website, if you call their 800 number, they can use the skew (sku?) number to search for the item in the inventory of all of brick-and-mortar stores. If they find it, you can order it directly from the brick-and-mortar store that has it. I've done this twice.

Sideline: It's SKU.

Get a screen grab of the skirt, and take it to the talented seamstresses at Etsy. Post it in the 'Alchemy' section and a bunch of people will bid on the project then make you a wonderful skirt that looks just like the photograph!

Arnicae FTW! And many, many thanks to everyone else.

I saw one very similar at JCrew yesterday. Which doesn't negate Etsy, but if you want it without too much fuss, it was there.
