Another camera case question

Another camera case question, but my first. I have a decent point and shoot, the Fujifilm Finepix S6000 and I need to get some protection for her.

In making a choice, I am unable to do much more than take a stab in the dark, and the choices are all but limitless and opinions vary widely. I travel a lot, and I do quite a bit of walking and public transport. Mostly I want to protect the camera from bumps, jolts and water. Plus walking around with it slung from the neck looks touristy and pretentious. I'm not hung up on price, though 50-70 bucks seems reasonable. I wouldn't mind a 'lens protection filter' and a decent tripod if included (as many are on Amazon), but mostly I just want a smallish bag in which to safely and comfortably carry my camera.

This one protects from bumps, scratches, and water. It's also quite small and compact. Best of all, it's only about $12.

I have the bigger cases for all my rig and they're pretty tough. Also, last I heard, Pelican guarantees them for life.

Response by poster: thanks arishaum, I'll be checking to see if that will work with my camera. Or are there size specs somewhere that I'm overlooking?

Best answer: I'd recommend a Lowepro or Crumpler one. I don't like hard cases, but that's just me.

If you're worried about walking around with your camera around your neck, do what I do, and wrap the neck strap around your hand, securing it but making it more discreet.

A couple of people in this thread recommend a Lowepro Toploading Zoom Mini.

My bad. For some reason, I thought that you had one of the little cameras. I'm mainly a Canon shooter myself, so I'm unfamiliar with the Fuji range.

Pelican also offers one of these. This is a soft case, but you can always look into user reviews to see how well it stands up. They have all kinds of sizes, so it's worth a look.

I've got this cheap Dolica bag for the Fuji S600 (older US version, similar form factor). It's a bit chunky, but it holds all the bits and bobs that go with it. But I'm now tempted to buy the LowePro TLZ Mini as a gadding-about case.

Response by poster: arishaun, no problem, obviously you are a real pro and I am manifestly a rank armature. besides I should have linked to the cam in my original question. That's some nice gear. Thanks!
Magnakai that is a treasure trove of a post, lots of excellence there, at this point, and I'll hold off ordering for 24 hours, I, like holgate, am strongly leaning towards that LowePro TLZ mini you link to, that's a sweet case.

Response by poster: A camera shop not far from me has this LowePro in stock for just 25 dollars. I'll probably do that unless someone has a better suggestion.

Just in case you decide the LowePro doesn't work for you, I find the Crumpler 2 Million Dollar Home bag fits the S6000 like a glove. Perhaps too much so, if you're the kind of person who likes to slip the camera in and out of the case often, but other than that I have no complaints. Try to find one on sale, though.

Response by poster: thanks, chrominance...I'm considering that as well now.

I am a HUGE fan of all of Crumpler's bags. Very well made, from the 2 million dollar homes all the way up to my Karachi Outpost and 7 million dollar home.

Response by poster: Thanks for all the excellent advice, this has been my most successful askme to date! I decided on the Lowepro Toploading Zoom Mini, though the Crumpler is quite impressive but a bit expensive for me in this instance. (I'm an armature just for fun photog with a low-end camera). I do want to note that, on-line, w/ S&H the case was nearly 45 USD. I got it at Ritz in a local mall for $20. Of course I also sprung $30 for a 58 MM lens filter, but still came out ahead. And I had to settle for the blue (I'm a black lover). Anyway, highly recommended w/o reservation. Merci.

For the record, I just bought the Rezo TLZ 10 for my Fuji S700 (got the model wrong): the TLZ mini is a bit too big.
