Where to find those VERY large storybooks that children's librarians use for storytelling hours? I've searched for "large", "big" and "oversized" storybooks to no avail.

Best answer: Did you ask a children's librarian?

Check the links at the bottom of this page.

Are you talking several feet large, or say 1.5 feet?

There where collectors versions of The Little Engine that Could and one other book released in 2006 that I'd put at nearly 3 feet in length. I'll try to track down an ISBN. Otherwise, there are giant editions available of some books that measure roughly 1.5 feet.

Best answer: We have some in my office. They come from "Big Books", published by Scholastic Books, Inc. There are "Big Book Collections" being sold on Scholastic.com (example).

I've seen them several times at Borders bookstores near us (in upstate NY), but I don't recall seeing them at Barnes and Noble. At Borders they are usually in a large bin near the odds and ends of the kids section - near the kids books on tape, etc. I am pretty sure that the official name of the is "Big Books" - and there is an "official" method for teaching kids to read that uses them, which I think was "invented" by a teacher from New Zealand. I found a bunch on ebay while googling.

Best answer: I think you want a teacher's supply store. When I worked in a college library, we sent students to Paul's Teacher's Pet (a local store). In your area, there seem to be a fair number of choices.

Here in Vancouver, the large local children's bookstore sells some and will pretty much special order anything in for a customer. Possibly something like that exists in Chicago. I came across one store called Children in Paradise, not sure how big they are or if they do special orders for customers.
