How much money is spent by the protagonist in The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas?

I'm about 3/4 of the way through the book and there seems to be quite a lot of money amounts listed (sometimes precise, sometimes not so much). Has anyone gone through and added it all up?

I can't help but think it would make a fine companion to The PowerPoint Anthology of Literature.

As an excel spreadsheet perhaps?

I don't have a precise answer to your question, but if I recall correctly, toward the beginning of the book Dumas gives the approximate worth of the treasure, and toward the end of the book he mentions how much money is left after all that crazy spending. By comparing the two, you can get an approximate idea (though, I think Monte Cristo makes some money during the course of the book). Still, I'd be curious to see a spreadsheet.
