I want to build a small fishing boat. Suggestions for (free) boat building plans?

Woodenboat Magazine always has lots of ads for plans in the back (if not an article or two), and you can get it at B&N.

How small is a "small fishing boat"? Are you talking kayak sized, or cabin cruiser sized?

Best answer: Dynamite Payson's book 'Build the new instant boats' (more infor here: http://www.instantboats.com/btnib.htm (sorry, no HTML-fu) is great. It shows you how to build and includes enough detail in the plans to build a couple of the boats he describes. Might be worth checking out if you can borrow a free copy.

Or go to http://www.boatdesign.net/Directory/Boat_Plans/Free_Boat_Plans/ where there are heaps of links to free plans.

I built a 12' ply dinghy years ago. Best fun I ever had.

I just discovered "Build Your Own PVC Johnboat for minimal cost and time" at instructables.com about an hour ago. Non-traditional for sure, but looks like a fun project.

Response by poster: Thanks.

I think I'll try the One Sheet Skiff.
