Replace the Teen Titans!

My husband's two favorite cartoons, Teen Titans and Justice League, are not returning next season...what can he replace them with? Adult humor, dark themes, superheroes all good. He likes The Tick, but watches Cowboy Bebop on fast forward just for the action scenes.
Pretty much all of adult swim, I would say.

There is a Legion of Super-Heroes cartoon starting up in the fall. I imagine it'll be along the same lines as Teen Titans and Justice League. It may be geared to a younger audience tho since all the characters seem to be children.

OH MAN COWBOY BEBOP IS AMAZING, tell him to watch adult swim on cartoon network. It's on everynight and the majority of the stuff sounds like it would be right up his alley.

sLevi, you must be an awesome wife just to be here asking this question.
anime on CN that he might also like, for the action scenes: Naruto, Samurai Shamploo (made by the same people as Cowboy Bebop) and FullMetal Alchemist.
and a second on the Venture Brothers. probably also Robot Chicken... different style but very funny.

Venture Bros, hell yeah. Although they are trying too hard to have a story arc right now, IMHO -- they should get back to the randomly funny stand-alones.
If he likes D&D at all Korgoth might be worth a shot, I think that got greenlighted after they ran the pilot. There's something by the Home Movies creator called Dethklok (spellings vary) coming along soon that might be fun if he's a metal-head.
And Futurama's coming back on Comedy Central soon, that is a must-see.

Jackson Publick aka Christopher McCulloch, creator of The Venture Bros., wrote a couple of animated Tick episodes -- and a live action one.
Patrick Warburton, the live action Tick, voices Samson the bodyguard.
Venture Bros is the best thing on [adult swim] right now.

I have nothing to contribute except to say that I, too, am greatly saddened that Teen Titans will not be returning. I now have no use for Cartoon Network.

If he hasn't done so already, then this is a fine time to go back and round up DVD's of the Batman or Superman animated shows from the nineties. Better yet, go back even further and snatch some episodes of Max Fleischer's Superman!
Don't leave your superhero fix in some crass network's hands. Don't let your two-fisted tales get broken up with commercials. Reach back to the classics and do it on your own time!

Another vote for the venture bros. Buy season one on DVD. It's the best show on television right now.
It's not on right now (don't think it got cancelled) but Drawn Together on Comedy Central is really funny.

I would also like to add my sadness about Justice League and Teen Titans not returning. Cartoon Network was never very nice to them in the first place. Is it really that hard to play a season in order? I'll be awaiting the DVDs.

Avatar: The Last Air Bender is really good. Nicktoons seems to be playing it constantly, but you may do better to watch'em in order. First season comes out complete on DVD soon (avoid the 4 episode single DVD sets!)
N+1ing suggestions for Venture Bros and revisiting any Timm and Dini toons that are on DVD now (Batman, Superman, Batman Beyond, etc). Be sure to get the movies too (Mask of the Phantasm, SubZero, the unrated version of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, and there's even a new Superman flick, Brainiac Attacks out).
Moving away from DC, there isn't much. Samurai Jack is awesome and all out on DVD now. Hellboy, in theory, will be an animated series coming down the road. Marvel doesn't have much out there but mediocre Spider-man cartoons and a basically okay Avengers animated movie based on the Ultimates comic line.
Of course, these cartoons are a gateway drug for actual comics. Justice League will give you enough background to grok Kingdom Come, the Loeb and Sale Batmen (Haunted Knight, Long Halloween, and Dark Victory are all sequels to Frank Miller's Year One and better), and the bevy of Superman comics out right now for the movie (Birthright, For All Seasons, Red Son, Secret Identity).

Oh! X-Men: Evolution was pretty good too. It was out on TV around the first and second X-men movies and should be on DVD now.

Definitely The Venture Brothers. Also possibly Harvey Birdman (I've only seen a few episodes, mind you, but they were seriously funny).

You could buy the season DVDs of:
Batman - The Animated Series
Superman - The Animated Series
Justice League
Teen Titans
The Justice League and Teen Titans cartoons are based upon the style Paul Dini and Bruce Timm made famous in Batman - The Animated Series. But your husband probably knows this.
They're good gifts because he can revisit his favorite story/episode any time he wants instead of flipping around looking for something that could "replace it".

Definitely Samurai Jack and Genndy Tartakovsky's Star Wars: Clone Wars.
The original Jonny Quest. That jazzy theme song! Manly 60's adventure! Dinosaurs! Mad scientists!

He could also try:
The Legion of Super Heroes.
Which is done by the people who did Teen Titans/JLU.
